Did you know that teenage “popularity” can be dangerous to your child’s well being? Pressures to succeed, avoid alcohol and other drug abuse, and make safe and healthy choices about sexuality are daily challenges most of our teens face. Research consistently demonstrates that parents have the most significant protective impact on teenagers in all areas of potential risk, including substance use and premature sexual behaviors. Wednesday, March 26, 2014, the Outback Teen Center will sponsor a parenting workshop that will provide the essential “how to” guide for raising pre-teens and teenagers in today’s demanding culture. “Delay Your Gray: How to Keep Your Teenager Safe and Yourself Sane” will take place Wednesday, March 26, 2014 from 7 – 8:30 pm at New Canaan’s Outback Teen Center. A fun haven for the youth of New Canaan, CT
Here at the Outback New Canaan Teen Center is dedicated to providing a positive environment in New Canaan where teens are able to relax, socialize, participate in self-directed activities, and have the opportunity to contribute to the community. The Outback is about pre-teens and teens voicing their perspective, interests and connecting face to face with each other in a safe, substance-free and pressure free environment. We are here to support their creative options for fun and explore the possibilities.
Every school year many students visit the Outback for good, clean fun. They join in a variety of social events and program, imagined and developed by teens for teens and in the service opportunities through which participants build a sense of purpose, community and personal value. While they are here, they are discovering healthy social alternatives and building the resilience, responsibility and resourcefulness they will need as young adults.
