The Outback & New Canaan High School present REEL Talks!

On April 12 and May 4, join the Outback, NCHS, Youth Services, Grace Community Church and St. Mark’s for
FINDING KIND and AMERICAN TEEN.

This event is FREE and open to all high school students.
Food and drinks included.

FINDING KIND (April 12 @ NCHS, 6:30pm): In Finding Kind, filmmakers Lauren Parsekian and Molly Thompson, who met while in school at Pepperdine University, set out in a cross country journey of discovery and education. Interviewing women and girls along the way about their lives and experiences, Parsekian and Thompson find, among all of the unique personal stories, some universal truths about growing up as girls.

  • Have you ever been negatively affected by something another student/peer has said to you?
  • Have you ever said something that negatively affected another student/peer?
  • Does girl-against-girl crime affect your experience at school, or in your day to day life?

Stick around for pizza and drinks as we share personal stories, discuss common negative behaviors and how we can change them, and come together with your peers to stand strong as a community to help bring an end to bullying.

AMERICAN TEEN (May 4 @ the Outback, 6:30pm): A funny, engaging documentary focused on the issues teens face today.  Experience senior year of high school through the eyes of five real-life Indiana teenagers: the Prom Queen, the Heartthrob, the Jock, the Rebel, and the Geek.  This year-in-the-life feature reveals all the heartbreak, hilarity and OMG-drama of senior year from 5 very different viewpoints.  No matter who you identify with, everyone will relate to American Teen.

After the show, stick around for pizza and drinks while we discuss the issues raised in this feature in a judgement free, open and fun environment.  Talk with friends and peers to share your thoughts about this teen film.  Journey through a “day-in-the-life” of those you spend most of your time with, but may know nothing about.
